The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, held a historic meeting with the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, in the emblematic Great Hall of the People in Beijing. It was a moment filled with symbolism and hope, during which Spain reaffirmed its firm commitment to continue strengthening bilateral ties with China, culminating the meeting with the creation of a permanent Strategic Dialogue that will elevate political communication between both nations to the highest level.
During the subsequent press conference, President Sánchez reviewed this fruitful visit—his fourth to China— with evident satisfaction: «In 2005, we took a decisive step with the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, last year we signed a three-year Action Plan, and now we have gone even further.» The institutionalization of this Strategic Dialogue represents an extraordinary advancement, as it will endow the relationship between the two countries with greater solidity, regularity, and continuity, placing Spain on the same level as China's other major European partners.
On the economic front, the results are equally encouraging. The agreements reached in 2025 have already proven their effectiveness, leading to a more than 71% increase in Spanish exports to China in just one year. With full confidence in the path taken, Sánchez emphasized that the new agreements signed during this visit will help consolidate this positive trend and continue to correct the trade imbalance, moving toward an increasingly fair and balanced economic relationship for both parties.
To conclude this visit, Spain and China will sign an ambitious package of agreements aimed at facilitating Spanish products« access to the Chinese market, promoting mutual investments, and developing joint projects in strategic sectors such as transportation and infrastructure. In the words of the president: »If we want the globalized economy to continue being an opportunity for all, we need fair supply chains that generate employment and prosperity in all regions of China and also in all regions of Spain." A message of collaboration, equity, and a shared future that perfectly defines the spirit of this new phase in Sino-Spanish relations.
